Special guests Councilor David Jeffels and Viscountess Downe joined the children and their families to view the new building and enjoy tea and cake as part of the celebrations.

The bespoke classroom has allowed the school to create a modern learning space for its students while maintaining its Victorian heritage.

The £350,000 construction, funded by North Yorkshire County Council, offers a seamless transition to outdoor learning, wheelchair access and state-of-the-art hygiene facilities.

Wykeham pupils take advantage of the new classroom

Principal Janet Spittal, who also runs Wykeham Hackness Federation School, explained: “Our new classroom has enhanced what we offer our youngest pupils, giving them the fantastic learning environment that they deserve so they can have the best possible start at school. ”

Wykeham will hold an afternoon open house on Friday 30 September for families with children due to start reception in September 2023. For details contact the school office on 01723 862413.
