Delhi’s environment minister, Gopal Rai, said on Monday that classes for primary school students, which had been halted due to “severe” air pollution last week, would resume from Wednesday, air quality has improved.

“From November 9, 2002, primary schools will be open and the ban on outdoor activities (for grade five and above) will be lifted,” Rai said.

On Sunday, the Commission for Air Quality Management in the NCR and Adjacent Areas (CAQM) ordered states in the NCR to lift restrictions as part of Stage 4 of the response action plan (GRAP), including a ban on truck entry into Delhi.

The GRAP is a set of emergency measures taken to reduce air pollution.

Now, GRAP Stage 1, 2 and 3 curbs will continue in Delhi including ban on construction activities and use of diesel generators with a list of exceptions.

Delhi’s air quality is currently in the “very poor” category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board.
