The importance of integration and communication ESG: EnvironmentSocial and Governance Contributions from Mr. Satinder Chawla, Managing Director, Span Floors
October 3: The world, as we can see, is facing certain challenges. We have a situation regarding global warming and changing weather patterns, we have another situation where materially we have grown exponentially but morally there has been a not so good change in terms of deteriorating values. Speaking of education, we are producing hordes of unemployable young people who, lacking skills, are unable to contribute as much as they could or, worse, may turn to a life of crime to fulfill their desires.
At Span Floors, we believe that the only sustainable way to create wealth is to add value to people’s lives. Thus, our ESG plan is simple:
Environmental impact – We divide this into 2 parts – One is the impact on the environment inside the building and the other is the impact of the building on the outside world. Speaking of indoors, we look at the impact of wood floors on indoor air quality. This basically looks at the type of chemicals used to make and finish the floors and the resulting emissions. Regarding the external impact, it comes from how and where the wood comes from. We regularly hold training sessions, webinars and YouTube videos for industry participants where we talk about it in depth in an easy way so they can connect it to their daily lives and apply the data learned. The training of our internal staff is also designed accordingly and the team is happy to know that whatever work they do within the organization contributes in some way to solving the problem rather than improving it and at the same time helping them economically.
Social – The materials education initiative as explained above contributes to being classified as a social action. However, we go beyond that. Regular trainings are held for our staff where we work with each individual to create an individual training plan. These trainings, while educating them on how to best do each of the actions of their job profile so that it provides the greatest value, also at the same time manage their study-related abilities. We use something called “Study Technology” which teaches the right way to study anything so that the data can be fully captured and applied to produce the desired results. This itself produces many beneficial changes in an individual and he learns that it is possible to study and learn any skill and master it so that the desired value can be provided to the organization and to society and an earned income that is fully deserved.
Governance – As an SME, we take pride in the fact that our mutual actions as an organization contribute to nation building. While in this era and era you might think nation-building is only talked about because it looks good, we don’t feel it at Span Floors. We understand that we can only grow as India and Indians grow. So it makes sense that we follow the rules that lead to the greatest good for the greatest number. Our entire team understands this and knows that their revenue ultimately comes from the consumer choosing to trust the Span Floors brand and giving us the opportunity to help them in their goal of creating a beautiful home. Thus, it is our responsibility to give them their full value by giving them wooden floors, facades and terraces which not only are aesthetic and durable but also contribute to good health in terms of product emissions as well as an impact positive on the general environment.
