St. Pius V School builds a pavilion offering an outdoor learning space

PROVIDENCE – Over the past year, many people have spoken of the blessings resulting from COVID-19. One of these blessings is currently St. Pius V Church and School. The church and the school worked together to erect a beautiful new structure on the campus. A multipurpose pavilion is being built on the site for the various outdoor activities of Saint-Pie V.
The idea for the pavilion came from the school’s need to hold a lot of class time and lunch outside this year, due to the pandemic. “We had such a successful year with our students in person, full time, with very few cases,” says Jennifer Anzelone, a current SPV relative. “I know a lot of this was due to keeping the students out and away as much as possible.”
Holding classes and lunches outside has forced the school to rent expensive party tents, an ongoing cost that is unsustainable for the school budget. Father James Sullivan, OP, decided that a permanent structure would benefit both the school and the parish. Not only will the pavilion be used for classroom space, it can be used for fundraisers, parties and other school and parish events.
